Switch to Remote Learning

July 16, 2020

Greetings to the Roswell High School Community,

Earlier today, the Superintendent announced the decision to open the 2020-2021 school year on August 17, 2020 in a Remote Learning Environment (You can see that announcement by clicking HERE).

The decision to open the school year remotely has been made based on the rising number of COVID cases and the need to make sure that our students and staff are as safe as possible. The nature of this crisis means we are often reacting to circumstances as they change.

We have already received a lot of questions. For example, will students who have selected the full-virtual option be allowed to switch back? What about athletics? How will students get their technology to begin the year? What will remote learning look like? Truthfully, we do not have the answers to these questions, but we will! The District leadership has begun working to provide the schools more information and we hope to be able to communicate to you some answers very soon. Until we get more clarification, we are not going to make any changes any to student schedules. This includes adding or removing any virtual courses.

In the meantime, I want to thank our Back To School Committee for their work developing our plan to return to school in a face-to-face environment. In keeping with our original timeline, we are going to share that plan with our community tomorrow afternoon. There is a chance we may still need to put that plan into action.

On Monday, the Back To School Committee will begin working on our plan for Remote Learning. This will be very different than the way instruction was provided in the spring when the District first shut down due to the spread of COVID-19. Some changes you can expect to see include synchronous classes and a higher level of accountability for students. We understand that remote learning does not take the place of Face-To-Face instruction and that it presents many challenges for our Roswell families, but the faculty and staff at Roswell High School are second to none and I know that they will provide the best remote learning opportunities for our Hornets.

I want to thank you for your patience and support during these times. Please keep in mind that the leadership of the District and the Roswell High School staff are committed to doing what is best for all of our stakeholders.

Thanks and be safe.
